Our story

A historic model born from solidarity

In 1957, faced with rural exodus, the producers of Beaufortain chose to unite rather than disappear. This solidarity gave birth to our cooperative, a model where fair payment for producers is not an option, but a fundamental value.

Today, almost all milk producers in Beaufortain are united within our cooperative.

Our cooperative model guarantees a controlled short circuit from start to finish: from milk collection to direct sales in our 13 stores, through production and aging in our Beaufort cellars. This organization allows us to ensure absolute traceability, total transparency, and fair recognition of everyone’s work.

Beyond fair payment, we advocate for transmission: that of traditional know-how, of living landscapes maintained by our herds, and of a local economy that sustains our valley.

Choosing our Beaufort means choosing ethical and supportive agriculture, where the economy serves the men and women who work.

Behind every wheel, passionate men and women

Since 1957, the Cooperative brings together 180 producers attached to their territory and the quality of their work.

By purchasing our Beaufort AOP, you ensure fair payment to the producers and help sustain the alpine pastures, landscapes, and traditional know-how of Savoie.

What our customers think of the cooperative

If you come to Beaufort, you must stop here to buy the cheese of the same name. Unbeatable price and it is excellent.

Anselme

Super cool and the Beaufort is really very good

Cris

The king of cheese, you either love it or hate it, so it's 1 or 5 stars for me; it's 5 stars, especially since the prices in the holy grail of sales are not excessive compared to the shops that sell it all over France.

DBR

My favorite cheese, Beaufort, at its best. Possible visit to the cellars. Refrigerated vending machine outside very useful if passing by outside opening hours.

The Gi

Every year when we come to Beaufort, we get our cheese there. And we are never disappointed 😁 (The best is the summer Beaufort 😉)

Laura

Very good cheese! A few other local products in the store. Free small museum above the store.
