Multiactivity in the Mountains

A double hat

When the snow arrives, the Tarine and Abondance cows rest in the barn, but the producers cannot afford to slow down. To maintain a balance between their agricultural obligations and the growing tourist activity in winter, they often put on a new outfit: that of a ski instructor, ski patroller, groomer, or ski lift operator.

A meticulously organized operation

Thus, nearly a third of farmers in the region combine these two activities: the daily milking of their cows and hours spent keeping the ski resorts alive.

The days are long, but their organization is impeccable. All this with a simple yet essential goal: to keep the mountains alive all year round. In summer, it is the lush pastures that attract holidaymakers, and in winter, it is the ski resorts that attract skiers. Between these two periods, producers ensure the vital link between agriculture, tourism, and winter sports.

Keeping the mountains alive all year round

This versatility is the glue of the local economy. By combining these activities, our farmers contribute to keeping the mountains alive all year round.

This model of multi-activity shows that the mountains can thrive thanks to the synergy between agriculture, tourism, and winter sports.
